Name: Jenny Johnson

Job Title: Logistics Manager

When did you join HMK? I joined HMK 15 years ago as an apprentice working on reception and I started my new role as Logistics Manager in July this year.

What does your new role involve: I’m now based at our warehouse in Radnor Park managing the logistics operation, so I oversee the processing and scheduling of shipments coming in and out. I manage our sales order processing team and support them in their roles. It’s great being at the warehouse because we can see how big products are and how long they’ll take to pack ready for shipping.

Previous experience and areas of expertise: I joined HMK as an apprentice when I was just 17, originally working in a reception-based role, but I was also involved in order processing from the start, so I have a lot of knowledge and experience in this area. As a small company, all our teams work closely together, and after 15 years here I’ve gathered a lot of experience.

During the pandemic, I also became more involved in the warehouse getting involved with things like stock takes, so I know the complete end-to-end process very well.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role: I do like the problem-solving side of the role and being able to help people and provide great customer service. If for example a customer is desperate for a certain product to be able to complete a project on time, I like being able to support that and make it happen.

One of the systems we use is Microsoft Dynamics NAV, which I do have a lot of knowledge of, so I’m also looking forward to being able to share that knowledge with the wider workforce to support them to do their roles more efficiently.

Best thing about working at HMK: I really like the different challenges it brings – you won’t get bored working at HMK. It’s also great to be able to see the end result of some of the automation projects or applications we have supported and know that you had a hand in that project.

Proudest achievement: I’m not one for statuses or fancy job titles, I just like to do my job and do it well, but I am proud of how far I’ve come since starting out as an apprentice. If you’d asked me 10 years ago if I’d ever be a manager, I’d have never have believed I would be.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself: In my spare time I do aerial silks and hoops and have been doing aerial silks and hoops for around eight years. It’s a real test of your strength and flexibility and requires teamwork.
