HMK Automation has branched out into a new area of business – mechanical assembly.
For over 40 years, HMK has evolved to become the leading independent motion control supplier in the UK, supplying innovative products alongside engineering expertise to deliver successful application solutions for our customers.
Now, we’ve adapted to the evolving manufacturing environment borne out of the Covid-19 pandemic to also offer mechanical assembly to our customers.
Gary Kitchin, Managing Director at HMK Automation, explained: “During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, some of our OEM customers were faced with new challenges in completing their builds, working closely with these OEMs we were able to develop a new approach, deploying a level of offsite assembly which delivers some key OEM benefits.
“We were asked by one customer, who specialise in high performance printing machines, if we could supply the complete mechanical assembly rather than just the actuation motor. HMK was able to go a step further and not only build the assembly, but test and calibrate it making it ready to simply fit into their machine.
“We quickly diversified from being their motor supplier to delivering a complete calibrated assembly. We build it, test it and deliver it – we even developed a re-useable packing solution for a truly sustainable end-to-end solution.
“The pandemic has led to OEMs reassessing their manufacturing processes and outsourcing elements to a trusted partner. HMK are the automation experts, we already source all the materials and products for machine builders, so mechanical assembly is the logical extension to the services we offer.
“The benefits to our customers are plentiful – it reduces time to market, aids cash flow, limits risk and decreases production hours, so we’re pleased to now be able to offer this service to even more of our customers.”
